Having A Funeral Plan With Us

The arrangement room at Thornlea, where Merrilees arrange funerals and funeral plans
Complete Peace of mind for you and

your loved ones

Planning your funeral means your wishes are known, and your family won’t have to make difficult decisions at an already difficult time. It’s something more and more people choose to do, for their own peace of mind and for the people they love.

We arrange our funeral plans face to face, at our funeral home or in the comfort of your own home if you prefer. You’ll sit down with us, talk through all your wishes, and set out your wishes, from the type of service you would like to the music and the smallest personal details which matter to you most.

As an Appointed Representative of Golden Leaves, we can personally arrange your funeral plan with you from start to finish.

From discussing your wishes and recording your choices to completing your plan, everything is taken care of directly by us, giving you peace of mind that your arrangements are in place.

And when the time comes, it will be we who personally care for you and carry out your service with the same care, dignity and attention to detail that went into planning it.

From the day you make your plan to the day we fulfil your wishes, you’ll know exactly who is looking after you.

There’s no pressure and no hard sell. Many people come in simply to talk it through and go away to think about it or discuss it with their family first.

What you can plan

You can decide as much or as little as you like. People often choose:

  • burial or cremation, and whether there’s a family lair you’d like to be laid to rest in
  • the kind of service: religious or non-religious, at a church, the crematorium or somewhere that means something to you
  • music, readings and poems, and who you’d like to speak
  • where you’d like to leave from, such as your own home on the morning of the funeral
  • what you’d like to wear, and any personal items you’d like to have with you
  • the finishing touches: flowers, a horse-drawn hearse, or donations to a charity close to your heart

Anything you leave open, your family can decide nearer the time, with us beside them.

Burial, cremation or something simpler

If you’re not sure what kind of funeral you’d like, it can help to see what each involves:

  • A cremation funeral, with a service at Falkirk Crematorium in Camelon, a church or another private location first.
  • A burial funeral, perhaps in a family lair alongside parents or grandparents.
  • A direct cremation, an unattended cremation without a service, for people who’d rather keep things simple.

You’ll find all our options together on the funeral services page, and every price on our funeral costs page. We’ll talk you through the choices at your appointment.

Why plan with a local funeral director

When you plan with us, you know exactly who will look after you. You can meet Andrew and Samantha, see Thornlea, our funeral home on Ladysmill, and know that you’ll be cared for here, in our own mortuary, rather than somewhere far from home.

We’re an independent, family-owned business with over 20 years’ experience in the funeral industry collectively. You can read more in our full story. We’re here for people across the Falkirk District and surrounding areas, including Grangemouth, Polmont, Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Bo’ness, Denny and Bonnybridge, and also have previous experience in supporting families across Glasgow, Edinburgh and the wider UK.

What happens when the time comes

Your family calls us, day or night, on 01324 636446. Because your wishes are already written down, they won’t have to guess what you would have wanted. We’ll bring you safely into the care of our family here at Thornlea and arrange everything as you planned, talking it through with your family so they can add their own touches.

Our support for your family doesn’t stop at the funeral, either. We keep in touch afterwards, and our after the funeral page explains the bereavement support we offer.

Talking to your family

Planning ahead is often easier when the people closest to you know about it. Many people bring a family member along to their appointment, or let them know afterwards where their plan details are kept. If you’d find it helpful, we’re happy to be part of that conversation.

Golden Leaves funeral plans

We offer funeral plans from Golden Leaves. Come and talk to us and we’ll take you through the options, with no obligation.

Questions people ask

Do I need an appointment?
It’s best to give us a call first on 01324 636446, so we can set aside a specific time for you and discuss your wishes without interruption. You can also send us a message.

Can I bring someone with me?
Of course. Many people bring a husband, wife, son or daughter along.

Is there any obligation?
None at all. You’re welcome to come in, talk it through and take as long as you need to decide.

Can my family still add their own touches?
Yes. Your plan sets out your wishes, and your family can still add personal touches when the time comes.
